Mark has been playing guitar for 25 years and has developed a unique and visual finger style of playing. The music created with this style has strong rhythmic elements, and coupled with emotive melodies, each song conveys feelings that support and enhance the lyrics.
An interest in lyric writing developed as a teenager, so it was only natural to bring the two elements together to write songs as soon as the ability to play guitar allowed. This interest in song writing has led to much collaboration with other lyricists, and to the commencement of a Bachelor of Creative Arts, with a major in Creative Writing and a minor study in Musical Composition. (These studies were discontinued after only a year due to dissatisfaction with the learning process, believing that simply doing was the best way to develop a personal style as a writer.)
Broad artistic interests led to the opening of an Arts & Crafts Gallery, which was later followed with a Fabric Art & Design business. Throughout this period guitar playing and song writing continued to flourish and develop
Mark first performed in the early 90’s in originals band Watt Woz Iz. The band didn’t last long, due to internal difficulties, and soon dissolved. (The other members consisted of two brothers and their father.) Since then, the focus has been more on the process of creation, rather than performance.
But now he’s back, better than ever, performing as acoustic guitarist / vocalist N.Rich.M (and currently forming a trio called The Reality Project).
With a diverse catalogue of enough originals to play different songs all day, melodic and rhythmic elements combine to create catchy, memorable songs, regardless of genre. Styles range through folk, jazz, blues, country, pop and a kind of hip-hop/rap.
Versatility enables each performance to be tailored to suit the particular needs of the venue. In this way, any style preference can be met, such as more up-tempo, or more laid back, or a focus on more jazz or country. Original music has never been more accessible.
Mark is also suitable for restaurant bookings as an instrumentalist, as there are many pieces of music in his catalogue that have been referred to as “dinner music”…mood enhancement delivered with subtlety.
